One of the top infielders in the program, Villalobos proved last year on the freshmen squad that he has the defensive skills to play at a higher level. Villalobos’ range and arm strength can play both middle infield positions, and his development improves with each outing on the field and in the weight room. Villalobos’ strength has improved, and his long toss development means an easier time of throwing it across the field. Offensively, Villalobos’ conditioning really pays off with gap shot line drives and RBI opportunities continuing to develop. Villalobos has on-base capability with his bunt skills and line drive approach, and the Indians’ coaching staff expects additional results in 2017.
