One of the best players on the freshman level last year, Smisko should continue his success on the JV level in 2017. Smisko proved to be a valuable catcher in the spring and summer last year with a quality throwing arm, and the ability to block and frame pitches. Smisko’s defensive game has improved quite dramatically with added weight from conditioning in the weight room and on the field. Smisko has a left-handed swing that smashes base hits to all fields, and he displayed a real tenacity to hit with two strikes and runners in scoring position. Smisko should be a middle-of-the-order hitter and he has the ability to hit gaps shots to win games for the Indians.
