Bio

The Hart Baseball program welcomes back a familiar face to the freshman coaching staff in 2025 with the continued dedication of  Joseph Soqui. Coach Soqui, a school teacher for the past 25 years, joins Coach Pieper in developing our incoming frosh players. Father of former Hart Baseball and current MIT first baseman Malachi Soqui- Coach Soqui is a proud USC journalism graduate, who covered USC athletics while he was sports editor of the Daily Trojan after his high school playing days were completed.  

“Coach Soqui provides a great addition to the coaching staff and his efforts in guiding the young players in learning the essentials of the game is a key factor in player development.  Joseph- a teacher at McGrath Elementary- brings his passion for teaching to the yard every day,” said Coach Meza.  “It is Coach Soqui’s energy that keeps our young players striving for excellence on the field and in the classroom.”

Coach Soqui, a coach at the Hart Pony complex for the past 10-plus years, and his wife Melanie are blessed with two children.  Malachi, an outstanding first baseman at Hart in their championship 2021 team, hit .248 with 6 home runs and 18 RBI’s last spring for MIT.  Daughter Lael, a former Hart Cheerleader, now attends Pepperdine University.
