The Hart Baseball program welcomes a familiar face to the freshman coaching staff in 2023 with the addition of Joseph Soqui.  Coach Soqui, a school teacher for the past 23 years, joins Coach Pieper’s staff in the spring after raising former Hart Baseball and current MIT first baseman Malachi Soqui.  Coach Soqui, a proud USC journalism graduate, covered USC athletics while he was sports editor of the Daily Trojan after his high school playing days were completed.

“Coach Soqui provides a great addition to the coaching staff and I am excited with his efforts in guiding the young players in learning the essentials of the game.  Joseph has dedicated his life to teaching our youth, and that passion is extremely evident in his methodology with our players,” said Coach Ozella.  “It is Coach Soqui’s desire that the players improve their personal determination in their academics and their baseball, and those goals fit like a glove in our program’s aspirations.”

Coach Soqui, a coach at the Hart Pony complex for the past 10 years, and his wife Melanie are blessed with two children.  Malachi, an outstanding first baseman for the Indians in their championship 2021 team, hit .260 with 8 home runs last spring for MIT.  Daughter Lael cheers on the Hart athletic program as she finishes her senior year in the spring.
