I
kept Stats for the Cubs Rookies 1987-1990, and then the Angels
Rookies from 1991 to 1994. These teams played in the Fall in each of those years. The teams were sponsored by the Chicago Cubs and the California Angels. The Cubs played mostly College Teams, and as you can see by the game scores and stats, they were usually beat, sometimes badly, and their Averages (Batting and Pitching) reflected that. In 1991, The NCAA changed their rules as to how many Innings a College player could appear in Fall Baseball. Those college coaches decided that although playing Rookie teams like the Cubs was good for recruiting, as all games were played on the College Diamonds, they preferred to play their best players against College competition only. The Cubs thus dropped Sponsorship, and the California Angels took over the Team in 1991. Thereafter they played other "Top" Scout Teams, wining most games. In those years, both of these teams were able to get the "Cream" of the Talent in the San Fernando Valley and its adjacent areas. As you will see by checking the Yearly Team Stats, and the List of Players who played in the Majors there were some pretty good players on these teams. Many of the players played Professional Ball. Also several of the players have Coached High School Teams. I currently List 14 Players who made it to the Major Leagues that played on these 8 teams. Anyone who notices any Players listed on the 8 Teams who made it to the Major Leagues that I have missed, please let me know, and I will Link them immediately. Hart Players are well represented on all 8 teams: 1987: Casey Burrill, Darin Tsukashima &, Jason Edwards. 1988: Robby Davis, Casey Burrill, Darin Tsukashima & Jason Edwards. 1989: Keith Halcovich, Lance Migita, Robby Davis & Andrew Lorraine 1990: John Aguilar & Keith Halcovich 1991: John Aguilar 1992: Gary Stephenson 1993: Mike Espy, Luis Sanchez & Brian Wallace 1994: Brian Wallace, Josh Weitzman, Eric Horvat, Luis Sanchez, Ron Jones & Bobby Graves |
