Assistant Coach

Bio

Roland De La Maza returns to the Hart Baseball varsity coaching staff for his third stint of action and Coach Ozella couldn’t be more fortunate for his pitching expertise.  De La Maza, a former St. Genevieve HS, a College of the Canyons and Sacramento State University Hornet ace in his amateur days, reached the MLB in 1997 for the Kansas City Royals and pitched in one game for the Royals.

“I have been trying for years to have Roland return to our staff and we are fortunate that Coach De La Maza’s expertise will be in our dugout this year.  Coach De La Maza’s passion for coaching and for the players is evident each day on the field and Hart Baseball is truly blessed with his return,” said Coach Ozella.  “The pitchers are being guided by a top-of-the-line coach who is providing them both life and baseball lessons.”

Coach De La Maza has been married to Diana, an honors math teacher at Hart, for the past 23 years and the De La Maza family is blessed with three children.  Daniel, a Saugus graduate, recently married Cheyanne and works as a firefighter in Tennessee.  Hart graduate Briana, a softball player at Cumberland University in Tennessee majors in special education in her sophomore year.  Junior Hart catcher Ryan rounds out the De La Maza family.  Coach De La Maza has been a detective in the LA Sheriff’s Department for the past 23 years.
